Winners Selected in 2014 Howard County Library System Bookmark Contest
Students Create Colorful, New Designs To Mark the Page

COLUMBIA, MD -- Six drawings by Howard County students of various ages were chosen from more than 1,500 colorful entries as the 2014 winners of the annual Howard County Library System(HCLS) Bookmark Contest.
The categories and winning student(s) are:
- Kindergarten & Grade 1: Advik Rai, Guilford Elementary School (grade 1)
- Grades 2 & 3 : Ava Foss, Pointers Run Elementary School (grade 3)
- Grades 4 & 5 : Thomas Lee, Centennial Lane Elementary School (grade 4)
- Grades 6 – 8 : Minjee Um, Patapsco Middle School (grade 8)
- Grades 9 – 12 (tie)
Zephani Jong, grade 10, Centennial High School (grade 10)
Zoee Leckron, grade 11, Oakland Mills High School (grade 11)
The chosen designs will be featured on a series of bookmarks available at all HCLS branches beginning in mid-September. The bookmarks are free to the public while supplies last.

Now in its sixth year, the 2014 competition attracted a record number of entries. The contest, which is open to students in kindergarten through grade twelve, ran from May 19 through July 19. Submissions were received from all Howard County elementary schools, most middle schools, some high schools, as well as home and private schools. Winning entries were selected by a panel of judges in mid-August based on the drawings’ originality, design, and reproducibility.
