Suicide Prevention Symposium Set for November 16
Prevention Techniques, Panel of Suicide Survivors Will be Featured
Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center is hosting the 9th Annual Suicide Prevention Symposium on Friday, Nov. 16, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., at the NonProfit Collaborative in Columbia.
The symposium is designed to raise awareness of suicide as a public health issue and will include prevention techniques and information about the recovery process. A panel of suicide survivors will be featured at the end of the day’s activities.
The primary audience for the symposium is mental health practitioners, police officers, and people who have lost someone to suicide. The cost is $30 and includes 3.5 Category 1 CEUs for Social Workers and a light lunch.

Grassroots provides the county’s only emergency shelter and 24-hour crisis intervention services. Professional crisis counselors staff Grassroots’ 24-hour hotline; see walk-in clients in need of immediate counseling; and operate the Mobile Crisis Team, which responds with the police to community emergencies. Grassroots also manages the county's emergency shelter for men, women and families who are homeless and serves as the single point of entry for the Coordinated System of Homeless Services. In addition, Grassroots operates the Day Resource Center in the Leola Dorsey Community Resource Center and manages the Cold Weather Shelter during the winter months.
