Suspected Airbag Thief Apprehended In Howard County: Police
Howard County Police have arrested the suspect they say is responsible for numerous airbag thefts across the county.
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Police have apprehended the suspect they believe is responsible for numerous airbag thefts as well as additional thefts across Howard County within the past year.
Mateo Reyes, 22, of Adelphi, has been charged in connection to three thefts from October 2023 and one in April 2023. That timeframe is when Howard County police report seeing a large increase in airbag thefts.
Police continue to investigate Reyes’ involvement in other thefts during that time period and additional charges are pending. Since his arrest Feb. 23, there have been no additional airbag thefts reported in Howard County, the police department reported.

"Many of the thefts targeted Honda vehicles, in line with an ongoing nationwide trend. The stolen airbags are then typically resold to repair shops or online," the police department stated.
