Toddler Killed In Crash On Route 29 In Ellicott City

The crash happened Friday when a Peterbilt truck rear-ended a van, causing a chain-reaction collision.

ELLICOTT CITY, MD — A 3-year-old was killed in a crash that injured six others and closed Route 29 for several hours Friday.

Howard County officials said the crash happened just before 6:15 p.m. when a Peterbilt truck hauling a tanker and traveling northbound on Route 29 rear-ended a Honda Odyssey as it approached the Route 40 ramp. The crash set off a chain-reaction collision involving two additional vehicles.

According to officials, a 3-year-old passenger in the Honda was taken to Howard County General Hospital where they were pronounced dead. Six additional people were taken to area hospitals with injuries ranging from serious to minor.

The crash closed Route 29 northbound between Route 100 and Route 40 for approximately five hours.

The crash remains under investigation.
