Tropical Storm Damage 'Minimal' In Howard County: Officials

Officials said public works employees removed a handful of downed trees and wires to keep roadways open and only one road remains closed.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Officials are reporting "minimal impact" from Tropical Storm Isaias in Howard County. The county department of public works removed a handful of downed trees and wires to keep roadways open. The only reported road closure as of noon Tuesday is Furnace Avenue in Elkridge.

Howard County officials pegged rainfall totals at approximately 2.5 inches as of noon, while Ellicott City received closer to 3 inches at that time. The county stormwater management division reported streams leveling out.

Tropical Storm Isaias brought to mid-Atlantic tropical storm-force winds and several inches of rain Tuesday and is expected to move up the East Coast yet that afternoon. As it churned by Maryland, the storm produced tornadoes and flash flooding. A Maryland driver died in a storm-related crash and a tornado spawned by the storm is believed to have killed one person in North Carolina, officials reported.
