After a re-evaluation, public schools in Howard County have changed the plan for Monday, Feb. 5.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Public schools in Howard County will be closed on Monday, Feb 5. Officials announced the closure on Monday morning after previously announcing a delay.

After a re-evaluation, the Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) said that schools would be closed on Monday, Feb. 5.

Liberal leave is in effect. Essential employees should check with supervisors for further direction.

All evening activities in schools, both school and community-sponsored, are canceled, including high school athletic practices and games, according to HCPSS.

Maryland State Police said multiple crashes were being reported across the area, particularly on overpasses, bridges and untreated surfaces.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement Monday morning alerting drivers that roads may appear wet, while in reality they are icy. People should give themselves extra time to get to their destinations and exercise caution on the roads, weather officials advised.
