I-70 Delays Expected in Howard County This Weekend: State Highway Administration

Traffic alert: Major backups are expected on Interstate 70 due to concrete patching Friday to Monday, transportation officials say.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Drivers should expect major delays on Interstate 70 in Howard County this weekend, according to the State Highway Administration.

Lanes will be closed on I-70 east for concrete patching between MD 27/Ridge Road and MD 94/Woodbine Road .

The single-lane closure will start at 9 a.m. on Friday.

Two lanes will be closed at 9 p.m. on Friday.

"This will happen all weekend and create MAJOR delays," the State Highway Administration said in a statement. Work is weather-permitting.

All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 14, or earlier if the concrete is ready before then.

In the meantime, authorities advise taking these alternate routes:

  • MD 26/Liberty Road
  • US 40
  • MD 144/Frederick Road

Other roadwork planned for Howard County this weekend includes the following on I-95 south:

Bridge over the Patapsco River — Two lanes will be closed on I-95 south on the bridge over the Patapsco River for bridge deck repairs, Sundays through Thursdays from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.

Guilford Road bridge — One lane will be closed on I-95 south at the Guilford Road bridge from 4 a.m. until noon on Saturday for a routine bridge inspection.

MD 32 bridge — The right lane of I-95 south will be closed from 4 a.m. until noon on Saturday for a routine bridge inspection on the MD 32 bridge.
