Whole Foods Market Columbia will donate 5% of total sales to Grassroots on Nov. 11, from 7 a.m.-10 p.m.

“5% Day” is held quarterly by Whole Foods Market as an opportunity to give back to the community financially and to partner in a meaningful way with charitable organizations, according to company representatives.

Whole Foods Market opened its store in Downtown Columbia in August in the renovated former Rouse Company headquarters building designed by internationally known architect Frank Gehry. Located on Lake Kittamaqundi, the Columbia store is 45,000 square feet and offers natural and organic products and features local and artisan foods.

Grassroots provides the county’s only emergency shelter and 24-hour crisis intervention services. Professional crisis counselors staff Grassroots’ 24-hour hotline; see walk-in clients in need of immediate counseling; and operate the Mobile Crisis Team, which responds with the police to community emergencies. Grassroots also manages the county’s emergency shelter for men, women and families who are homeless and serves as the single point of entry for the Coordinated System of Homeless Services. In addition, Grassroots operates the Day Resource Center and manages the Cold Weather Shelter during the winter months. For information, visit www.grassrootscrisis.org
