Winter Sports Practices Delayed Until Jan. 4 For HCPSS Students

All instruction will continue virtually due to the increase of coronavirus infection rates across the county, school officials said.

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — All Howard County Public School System in-person contact will remain suspended through winter break with all instruction continuing virtually due to the increase of coronavirus infection rates across the county, officials said. In-person special education assessments also are suspended. Furthermore, the winter athletic season, previously scheduled to start Dec. 7, is postponed until Jan. 4, 2021. Virtual athletics sessions will continue and online registration for winter athletics will remain open via HCPSS Connect.

There will be no change to meal services, which will continue at all meal site locations on days school is in session.

HCPSS decided to suspend all current in-person contact effective Nov. 19. Howard County continues to remain above a 5 percent COVID-19 test positivity rate and a case rate of more than 25 per 100,000.
