Woodbine Man Shoots, Kills Would-Be Intruder: Police

A homeowner fatally shot a man trying to break into his home in western Howard County early Sunday morning, according to officials.

WOODBINE, MD — A Woodbine resident shot and killed a shirtless, shoeless man who was trying to break into his home overnight, according to Howard County police. Authorities say that no charges have been filed.

Gerardo Alberto Espinoza, 46, of Chantilly, Virginia, was identified as the deceased. Detectives say they believe Espinoza had been staying at a friend's home in the neighborhood where the shooting occurred.

Police said Espinoza began banging on the door of a residence in the 14000 block of Carriage Mill Road, where the husband and wife who own the home had been sleeping after 1 a.m. on Sunday, July 21.

The couple awakened and yelled for the man to leave. As Espinoza tried to break into their home, police said homeowner Charles Dorsey, 56, of Woodbine, fired one shot, which hit the man.

Nobody else was home at the time, and nobody else was injured, officials reported.
