Essex Shooting Under Investigation: Police

Police said someone was shot and injured in a field near apartments in Essex, and the investigation is ongoing.

ESSEX, MD — A shooting in Essex is under investigation after the victim sought treatment at an area hospital, police said. The gunshot wound was believed to be non-life-threatening, according to officials.

At 8:17 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20, police said officers were dispatched to the hospital, where someone had brought the victim. The individual had been shot in a lower extremity, police reported.

Detectives believe the shooting happened in a field near Kings Mill Apartments and Townhomes in the 1400 block of Hadwick Drive in Essex. The circumstances around the shooting remain under investigation, officials said in a statement on Thursday, Feb. 21.
