'A Christmas Carol' Comes to CCBC Essex

The Children’s Playhouse of Maryland (CPM), in residence at CCBC Essex, will perform “A Christmas Carol,” the Broadway version, throughout December.

“A Christmas Carol” will be performed at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 3-4, 10-11, 17-18, and  at 4 p.m. Dec. 11 in the J Building Lecture Hall (J-137) at CCBC Essex.

Students in the CCBC Catonsville interpreter preparation program will sign during the 4 p.m. performance. Tickets ($10 regular admission and $8 for birthday parties or scout troops) are available from the CCBC Box Office at 443-840-2787 (ARTS).

This CPM production features 34 student actors from Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County and Harford County.  James Ruth of Dundalk appears as Ebenezer Scrooge, with Kelsey Feeney of Bel Air, Zach Miller of Baltimore and Autumn Simpson of Millersville as the ghosts of past, present and future. Gino Cardoni of Essex plays Bob Cratchit and Maia Vong of Towson is cast as Tiny Tim.

CCBC alumna Liz Boyer Hunnicutt directs and Julie Parrish is musical director.  This production is part of CCBC’s “Year of the Performing Arts” celebration.

While “A Christmas Carol, the Musical” is a based on Charles Dickens’ classic story of the miserly Scrooge, whose penny-pinching ways alienate everyone from him, Scrooge’s visitation by the Ghosts of Christmases past, present and future has a whole new look with the full Broadway musical treatment.

A special “Brunch with Santa” will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 17 with the show or separately.  Brunch/Santa/Show tickets are $15 ($10 without the show).  Tickets for all events are available in advance by calling the CCBC Box Office at 443-840-ARTS Tuesday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; show tickets are available at the door, space permitting.

Children’s Playhouse of Maryland, Inc. is a not for profit community theatre dedicated to youth performers ages 18 and under.
