Lightning Strikes Near Essex Home: Lieutenant

A tree was hit by lightning Thursday evening, Baltimore County public safety official says.

ESSEX, MD — Lightning struck a tree in Essex Thursday evening, sending an electrical charge into a residence, Baltimore County public safety officials reported. One person was hospitalized due to medical reasons.

The lightning strike occurred before 6 p.m. in the 200 block of South Marlyn Avenue, according to Lt. Paul Massarelli.

When the lightning hit, it created an electric arc.

While nobody was injured by the lightning, Massarelli said one person was hospitalized because of a medical issue that was unrelated to the strike.
