Middle River Pair Charged in Murder of Teen: Police

Authorities say they have charged two suspects in the death of man whose body was found off Interstate 95 earlier this week.

Police have charged two people with murder in connection with the death of an 18-year-old man whose body was found off Interstate 95 in Kingsville this week.

Mark Vonnordeck, 48, and Dawn Surdi, 61, are charged with first-degree murder and first and second-degree assault, according to Maryland State Police.

Officials say the suspects live together in the 200 block of Carroll Island Road in Middle River.

They were familiar with 18-year-old Thomas J. Pope, of the 3500 block of Honeysuckle Lane in Middle River, who was found dead this week in a wooded area near I-95.

Police said a motive for the murder has not yet been determined.

Pope was reported missing by his family on Monday, Oct. 26, police said.

His body was found in a wooded area near mile marker 71.7 on I-95 the following afternoon, according to police.

Vonnordeck and Surdi were taken into custody Friday evening, police reported. Vonnordeck fled the residence and was found a short distance away, while Surdi was arrested at the home, the report said.

Vonnordeck and Surdi are being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center without bail, police said Saturday.
