Motorcyclist Killed In Essex Crash: Police

BREAKING: Police said the driver of a Harley-Davidson Sportster died in a crash Wednesday afternoon in Essex.

ESSEX, MD — A motorcyclist died and another driver was hospitalized from a crash Wednesday in Essex, according to police.

The motorcycle was headed west on Delaware Avenue when it hit the driver's side of a Jeep Commander that was traveling south on South Taylor Avenue before 5:30 p.m., police reported.

Franklin Sanders Jr., 52, of the 600 block of Virginia Avenue, had been driving a 2003 Harley-Davidson Sportster, according to officials. Authorities said he was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the 2007 Jeep Commander was identified as Duane Hyer, 46, of the 400 block of South Taylor Avenue, according to police. Hyer was taken to MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, officials said, and his condition was not known.

The Baltimore County Police Department is investigating the collision.
