Police: False Report of Gunman on CCBC Essex Campus, Subject Hospitalized

UPDATE (4:10 p.m.)—One person was taken to the hospital for an evaluation after falsely reporting there was a gunman at the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) in Essex, according to the Baltimore County Police Department.

The report came one day after a shooting at Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL, that injured several people and resulted in the death of the shooter.

In Essex on Friday, someone phoned 911 at 11:39 a.m. and said an individual had pointed a gun at him and was going to shoot him, according to a report from police.

Immediately, authorities prepared special teams to respond to campus to deal with a shooter, police said.

CCBC sent out an evacuation order, according to Cpl. John Wachter of the Baltimore County Police Department.

Once on campus, police found the individual who called and determined there was neither gun nor gunman in the area, according to the report from police.

The individual who filed the report was taken for an evaluation at an area hospital, police said.

It was not immediately available whether he was affiliated with the school, according to Wachter, who said the evacuation order was lifted before 2 p.m.

UPDATE (12:10 p.m.)—A report that there was an armed individual at the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) in Essex on Friday morning was unfounded, Baltimore County Police reported.

Authorities were speaking Friday afternoon with the person who filed the report of an armed person on campus Friday morning, police said.

Officials had determined that there was no shooter and there was not a gun at CCBC, police reported at approximately 12:06 p.m.

Previous report (12 p.m.)—An armed individual was reported at the campus of the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) in Essex on Friday, the Baltimore County Police Department reported.

Police said that the report was being investigated, in a statement at 11:51 a.m. on Friday.

The report came a day after a shooting at Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL, that injured several people and resulted in the death of the shooter.
