Man Surrenders to Police After Barricade in Essex: Officials

Authorities worked for several hours to negotiate with a possibly armed subject in a home near Turkey Point Park.

ESSEX, MD — A man who barricaded himself inside a residence in Essex Wednesday is facing charges related to an alleged assault, officials said. He peacefully surrendered to police following negotiations.

Before 11 a.m., officers responded to the 2100 block of Anthony Avenue for a report of shots fired and found a man who said another man fired a gun at him several times, according to the Baltimore County Police Department. The two had been in an altercation at the time, and nobody was struck by the bullets, police said.

Initially, officers converged near Anthony Avenue and Greyhound Road because they thought the gunman was possibly armed and on the loose in the area, according to police. Later, authorities determined he was inside a residence on Anthony Avenue — home alone and armed.
