Prep Softball: Eastern Tech Tops Lansdowne, 2-0
In a battle of unbeaten teams, the Mavericks take advantage of a complete game shutout by freshman pitcher Jordan Cargile.
In a classic pitchers' duel on Thursday morning, Eastern Tech freshman hurler Jordan Cargile led her team to a 2-0 victory over visiting Lansdowne and its pitcher, Maude McCourry.
Both pitchers showed stellar command, mowing down batter after batter until late in the game. In the bottom of the fifth, McCorry, who had only allowed two base runners until that point, gave up a triple to Eastern Tech catcher Ashley Sauerwein.
“I waited for a good one,” Sauerwein said. “I thought I was going to stop at second but coach waved me on. It was a close play but I was safe.”

Two batters later, Maverick outfielder Corrin Cromwell dropped a McCorry pitch in the right field gap for a double, driving in Sauerwein.
“Corrin hasn't had a chance to bat in the last couple of games,” Mavericks coach Jack Meyers said. "We have been using the DH for her. She really stepped up for us today.”

In the very next inning, a pair of errors with an intentional walk in between loaded the bases for the Vikings. Lansdowne (7-1) seemed to tie the score but the base runner was called out for interference, nullifying the run. Cargile bared down and pitched her way out of the inning.
“It was an intense moment,” Cargile said. “But it's really nice to know that the team has my back. Even though we made some errors, we stood strong as a team and got out of the inning."
Meyers added: “Jordan deserves everything she gets. She works 12 months out of the year on her game, whether it be doing agility drills, working on her strength and conditioning or in the batting cage. She always works hard.”
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Cargile added some insurance with her bat when she ripped a double into right field, scoring teammate Carly Wheat. She then held the Vikings hitless in the seventh to preserve the victory.
“Maude pitched a really good game,” Vikings assistant coach Carla Privateer said. “She always gives 100 percent. They got a couple of key hits and we had a couple of spots where we let things go. You have to give Eastern Tech a lot of credit for capitalizing.”
Eastern Tech is not satisfied with the win over a county rival; they have their sights set on a Baltimore County title.
“We have Franklin next week,” Meyers said. “They have won the title the last two years. We won't rest until we beat them.”
