Pedestrian Killed in Tractor Trailer Crash on Route 40 in Middle River: Police

Eastbound US 40 was closed for several hours in the area of deadly crash for investigation, Baltimore County police said.

MIDDLE RIVER, MD — A man in his 50s died Wednesday after he was hit by a tractor trailer on US 40 in Middle River, according to the Baltimore County Police Department. His identity is not being released until next of kin notification has been made.

At 1:37 p.m., a tractor trailer headed east on US 40 hit the man, who police said was in the road and not in a crosswalk east of Holly Drive.

The man was taken to Franklin Square Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The tractor trailer remained at the scene, officials said.

Police closed eastbound US 40 at Holly Drive for several hours to investigate. By 5:30 p.m., officials reported the road had reopened.

Authorities said the crash investigation was expected to take several weeks.

PREVIOUS REPORT - Authorities say a serious crash is snarling traffic in Middle River Wednesday afternoon.

The collision occurred on US 40/Pulaski Highway at MD 700/Martin Boulevard, the State Highway Administration reported.

US 40 east was closed at Martin Boulevard, officials said just before 2 p.m.

Drivers were advised to take MD 7/Philadelphia Road as an alternate route.

State highway officials described the crash as "serious."

A tractor-trailer was involved, according to WBAL, which reported a pedestrian may have been impacted in the crash too.
