Teen Killed By Pellet Gun Near Middle River: Police

Police said a boy died shooting targets with a pellet gun Thursday night in Baltimore County.

MIDDLE RIVER, MD — Police said a 15-year-old boy died after being shot with a pellet gun Thursday night near Middle River. The case is under investigation.

The teen was hit in the chest with a round or a fragment of a round while he and a friend were shooting targets with a pellet rifle in the backyard of Dogwood Drive, police said.

Crews were called to the unit block of Dogwood Drive around 6:48 p.m. on Thursday for a report of a person with a gunshot wound and found the boy in the backyard in cardiac arrest, officials said.

Despite medics working to save his life as he was en route to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, police said he was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The incident is being investigated as an accidental injury death, officials reported.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the manner of death, and the state's attorney will review the matter as well.
