The Maryland SPCA Opens Adoption Center at White Marsh Mall

To help save more homeless pets, the Maryland SPCA has opened Project Adopt, an off-site adoption center located in the old pet store in White Marsh Mall next to JC Penney.  Kittens and cats will be available for adoption on Fridays from 2-8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays 11-6 p.m. until the end of the year.

“Each year, we are able to find homes for more than 3,000 homeless pets through our adoption center at our Falls Road location,” said Aileen Gabbey, executive director of the Maryland SPCA.  “We are so excited to be offering a new satellite adoption center for the holiday season and find homes for more pets.”

The MD SPCA’s regular adoption procedures still apply at the White Marsh location.  All cats and kittens available for adoption have been medically assessed, vaccinated, spayed or neutered and microchipped so they can go home with their new families the day they are adopted. The adoption fee for cats is $55 and the fee for kittens under six months is $100.  The MD SPCA also charges a required $17 Pet ID Package that includes a microchip, collar and personalized ID tags. The MD SPCA has no time limit to how long a pet can stay in their adoption program.

“The Maryland SPCA does not receive any operating funding from the government or the ASPCA. We rely on community support to save pets’ lives,” explained Gabbey. “We’re excited about this new project and would love to see this new adoption center become a permanent one. We will need community support in order to secure a long-term lease to continue this special project.”
