Lightning Strikes Person in Fallston

The lightning went through the garage, striking someone inside, Harford County officials said.

A person was taken to the hospital after being struck by lightning in Fallston Wednesday night, according to emergency officials.

The individual was in the garage in the 3200 block of Canterbury Lane when lightning struck the outside of the home and went through the garage, hitting the person, according to the a report from the Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association.

A woman who identified herself as his mother commented on the report that the victim was her 16-year-old son.

According to WJZ, he was opening the garage door when lightning struck him.

Paramedics took the victim for medical treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, the Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association reported.

Lightning can travel inside a structure through wires or pipes, according to the National Weather Service, which warns against using electrical equipment and plumbing during a lightning storm.
