Magnolia Middle School Ventilated After Natural Gas Leak: Fire Officials

Students were briefly evacuated but returned to classes Thursday afternoon, Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company said.

Students at Magnolia Middle School in Joppa were briefly evacuated Thursday afternoon due to a gas leak, according to the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company.

The fire company said that it was investigating an unknown odor at 299 Fort Hoyle Road, where the school is located, in a report at approximately 1:45 p.m.

By 2:25 p.m., students had returned to classes and crews traced the source to a natural gas leak, according to Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company.

Nobody was injured, and crews stopped the leak and ventilated the building, according to the report.

The fire company said it was initially dispatched to the area for an odor of gas inside at 1:25 p.m.

After 2:25 p.m., firefighters reported BGE was at the scene.
