100th Anniversary Celebration Thursday Of Montgomery County Police Department

The Montgomery County Police Department will celebrate its 100th anniversary at a commemorative ceremony Thursday.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Celebrate Montgomery County Police Department’s 100th anniversary at a commemorative ceremony will take place Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Red Brick Courthouse in Rockville to mirror the swearing in of five officers and a police chief that took place 100 years ago.

Montgomery County Police Chief Marcus Jones will reveal the contents of a time capsule buried 25 years ago, as well as share the contents of items to be placed in the new time capsule.

Special guest speakers include Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and Montgomery County Council President Gabe Albornoz.

"From a small, rural area with about 34,000 residents and without a police force, we are now a vibrant, diverse jurisdiction with 1.1 million residents who come to us from around the country and around the world with a professional police force of 1,300 officers and 500 professional staff," the MCPD anniversary website said.

Other planned events include a celebratory dinner and recognition event.
