2 Hit, Killed By Car Near Gaithersburg Polling Center: Reports

The crash happened around 7:20 a.m. near Fields Road Elementary School, reports said.

GAITHERSBURG, MD — Two people are dead after they were hit by a car outside a Gaithersburg polling center Tuesday, according to authorities and reports.

The crash happened around 7:20 a.m. on School Drive near Muddy Branch Road, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer tweeted. The accident site was near Fields Road Elementary School, which serves as a county polling location, NBC Washington reported.

The victims — a 70-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man — were taken to a nearby hospital where they later died from their injuries, according to NBC. Both were using a crosswalk at the time of the crash.

The accident prompted authorities to close Muddy Branch Road to Story Drive. The roadway reopened just before 11 a.m., Gaithersburg police tweeted.

The identities of the victims were not immediately released. Police also did not release information about the person who hit the victims.
