Police Investigate 5 Fires And A Robbery In 1 Night In Gaithersburg

GAITHERSBURG, MD — Gaithersburg Police and Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Services are investigating a series of suspicious events that took place during the early hours of Thursday. Between the hours of 1 and 2 a.m., firefighters were called to five separate fires — some of which are being investigated as arson — and police responded to a break-in and robbery at a jewelry store.

The City of Gaithersburg Police Department released this timeline of events from the night:

• 1:20 a.m. — MCFRS responds to the Montgomery Village Eye Center at 18310 Montgomery Village Avenue for the report of a fire that is being investigated as an arson.
• 1:30 a.m. — GPD officers responds to the Jewelry Exchange of Maryland lat 501 N. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg for a commercial alarm. Suspects stole jewelry from the store, police said.
• 1:30 a.m. — MCFRS responds to the 19500 block of Divot Place in Montgomery Village where shed/fence is on fire near the rear of the house.
• 1:35 a.m. — MCFRS responds to the 10000 block of Dellcastle Road in Montgomery Village for a garage fire.
• 1:42 a.m. — MCFRS responds to the 100 block of Watkins Station Circle in Gaithersburg for a vehicle fire. The vehicle had previously been reported as stolen from the Gaithersburg area and the fire is being investigated as an arson.
• 2:01 a.m. — MCFRS responds to a commercial fire at the Galanis Center at 8 E. Diamond Avenue in Gaithersburg that is being investigated as an arson.
