Man Dies Weeks After Gaithersburg Pedestrian Crash: Police

Montgomery County Police say they believe the 67-year-old Gaithersburg man may have had a medical emergency before he was fatally hit.

GAITHERSBURG, MD — Tesfaye Fugago Liranso, a 67-year-old man from Gaithersburg, died over the weekend after suffering serious injuries in a July pedestrian crash.

Montgomery County Police said Tuesday that Liranso succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.

Liranso had been hospitalized since July 24, when police say he entered the westbound lanes of West Deer Park Road near Hermosa Place shortly after 2:30 p.m.

As Liranso entered the Gaithersburg roadway, he was hit by a 2018 Toyota RAV4, police said. The driver remained on the scene.

Based on preliminary findings, police said they believe Liranso may have experienced a medical emergency when he entered the roadway.

An investigation into the case remains ongoing.
