GAITHERSBURG, MD — Robert Stojinski Jr., a 43-year-old man from Gaithersburg, will serve 25 years in prison after pleading guilty in a pipe bomb case.
Stojinski was sentenced Monday to 54 years with all but 25 years suspended. Following his release, he will be on supervised probation for an additional five years.
The sentencing comes after the Gaithersburg man pleaded guilty in April to the following charges:
The case dates back to Oct. 25, 2025, when first responders were called to the 24000 block of Empress Court in Gaithersburg for reports of an explosion.
At the scene, authorities found that the blast was caused by a pipe bomb that Stojinski later admitted to building with fireworks and an electric initiator.
He told investigators that the explosion erupted after he struck the device with a hammer, a move that left Stojinski with shrapnel injuries to his hand and eye.
Within the home, authorities found a second improvised explosive device, multiple privately made firearms and firearm components that did not include serial numbers.
State's Attorney John McCarthy said in a release that Stojinski had a "history of threatening to do violence."
In a statement to WTOP News, Lauren DeMarco, a spokesperson for the office of the state's attorney, said that Stojinski had planned to "blow up a CVS pharmacy." It was not immediately clear what prompted him to target the establishment.
