Explore Clouds, Weather at Community Museum’s Discovery Day on October 15
Discovery Day at the Gaithersburg Community Museum is recommended for ages five and older. Admission is free.
From the Gaithersburg Community Museum: Explore clouds and weather at Discovery Day at the Gaithersburg Community Museum on Sunday, October 15, 2017, from 1 to 4 p.m. Admission is free. This event is recommended for ages five and older. No reservations are required.
The event features hands-on STEM, art and make-and-take activities designed to help young learners discover the art and science of clouds and weather. Spend the afternoon learning about cloud identification, how to predict the weather, what a meteorologist does, and more. NASA's Globe Observer Project will be onsite with activities and information on becoming a Citizen Scientist and helping NASA with cloud observations and identification. Presentations on how to use the GLOBE App take place at 1:30 and 3 p.m.
Discovery Days, scheduled throughout the year, help stir the imagination and foster family involvement in a fun and stimulating environment.
The Gaithersburg Community Museum is located at 9 South Summit Avenue. Regular museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with additional hours by appointment. Some of the Gaithersburg Community Museum skywatching and educational programs are supported by The Explore Science: Earth & Space project, led by the Science Museum of Minnesota, in collaboration with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Explore Science: Earth & Space toolkits are developed and distributed nationwide by the National Informal STEM Education Network (NISE Net). Throughout spring and summer of 2017, events are taking place at over 250 museums and institutions throughout the country. The National Informal STEM Education Network (NISE Network) is a national community of informal educators and scientists dedicated to fostering public awareness, engagement and understanding of current science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
