Fire At Sardi's Restaurant In Gaithersburg: Officials

BREAKING: The Montgomery County Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire at a restaurant in Gaithersburg Tuesday.

GAITHERSBURG, MD — About 100 Montgomery County firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at a restaurant in Gaithersburg, according to officials. This was the second time in four years that a fire has torn through the building.

Around 6:30 p.m., a fire broke out at Sardi's, a Peruvian restaurant located at 430 N Frederick Ave. The fire spread along the duct work and extended through the roof, said county fire and rescue services spokesman Pete Piringer. Patrons and employees inside the restaurant were evacuated.

A firefighter suffered minor injuries while battling the blaze, officials said.

Four years ago, the same Sardi's restaurant caught on fire. The blaze broke out around 7 a.m. and was caused by an electrical malfunction, Piringer said in a September 2014 tweet.

More information to come.
