Gaithersburg Fireworks Test Shoot Set for New Venue

GAITHERSBURG, MD — A change in location for this year's Fourth of July fireworks show means Gaithersburg crews will have a test shoot to map out the best viewing for this summer's show.

The test shoot of about five fireworks shells is set for 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, the city says. The shells will launch from Bohrer Park at Summit Hall Farm, the new location for the City’s Independence Celebration and Fireworks on July 4.

With the change in the fireworks venue, the test shoot will allow spotters throughout Gaithersburg to determine optimum viewing locations. This information will be collected and analyzed. An online map will then be made available on the city’s website showing where the fireworks can best be viewed on July 4.

If you would like to participate in the spotting, look skyward at about 8:30 p.m. on May 25. Then send an e-mail by May 27 indicating your location and what you were able to see. Your information will be included in the city's analysis.

Bohrer Park at Summit Hall Farm is home to the Gaithersburg Water Park, Skate Park and Mini Golf course, plus walking paths, a playground and ponds. It also houses the Activity Center at Bohrer Park. Special activities are being planned at these facilities starting at 11 a.m. on July 4.

Independence Day festivities begin at 5 p.m., with concerts by Millennium and The Lloyd Dobler Effect, inflatables (including a human foosball game), interactive games, roving entertainers, face painting, and food trucks. The fireworks are scheduled to shoot off at dusk, which should be at about 9:30 p.m. A SummerGlo After Party with a DJ, dancing, games, and glow-in-the-dark giveaways will complete the day.
