Gaithersburg Post Office Retiree Pads Nest Egg With $30K Win

A retired Postal Service worker from Gaithersburg has cushioned his golden years with a $30,000 scratch-off win.

GAITHERSBURG, MD — A retired U.S. Postal Service worker just put his stamp on Lottery winning by finding a $30,000 top-prize scratch-off in the Match & Win game.

The 64-year-old Montgomery County man found his lucky ticket among four Match & Win scratch-offs he purchased at a 7-Eleven store in Gaithersburg. Two of the $3 instant tickets won a small prize and his fourth instant ticket matched all of the numbers in Row 1.

The Gaithersburg resident was astounded. “The zeroes kept coming,” he said. His prize went from $3 to $30 and, as he revealed even more zeroes, it reached a whopping $30,000.

The winner, who spent more than 40 years routing letters and parcels, is delighted his lucky instant ticket delivered a special surprise. He told Maryland Lottery officials he was so excited that he couldn’t sleep the night before he claimed the prize at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

Because he is on a fixed income, the happy player said the prize will add a bit more stuffing to his retirement nest egg.
