Gaithersburg Skate Park Hosts Skate-A-Thon Fundraiser

Part of the proceeds of an Oct. 21 Gaithersburg Skate-A-Thon will be donated to hurricane relief efforts.

GAITHERSBURG, MD - From the City of Gaithersburg: The Gaithersburg Skate Park will host a Skate-a-thon Fundraiser event on Saturday, October 21, 2017, from 12:30 to 6 p.m. to support the Park and the City’s youth programs. Skateboarders, inline skaters and BMX bikers are invited to participate in the fundraising challenge and pledge their “skate-time” in exchange for donations. Participants of all skill levels and ages are welcome. The Skate Park will open at noon and event activities kick off at 12:30 p.m. The Park is located behind the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, 510 South Frederick Avenue, next to Gaithersburg High School.

In order to enter the Skate-a-thon event, participants may choose to do the fundraising challenge or pay an entry fee at the door ($3 for City residents and $5 for nonresidents). All participants must also have a valid waiver. Participants who wish to fundraise are encouraged to use the donation tracking sheet on the back of the event flier to record their donations. The tracking sheet and money collected should be submitted on the day of the Skate-a-thon event. After the event, all sponsors will receive a tax-deductible receipt and information regarding the Skate-a-thon. A portion of the total proceeds will be donated to Hurricane Relief efforts.

Fun activities will occur at the Skate Park throughout the day and small incentive prizes will be awarded to participants for every 60 minutes of “skate time.” Participants will also get the opportunity to write a statement explaining “why they support the Skate Park” or describing “why the Park is important to them.” The grand prizes will be awarded at 5:30 p.m. to the two participants who have demonstrated the greatest overall support for the Skate Park. Overall support will be determined through a combination of factors, including length of skating time, total donations raised and/or quality of statement of support.
