God Bless America!

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”  July 4, 1776, 56 brave men, representing 13 colonies, declared independence from Great Britain.  

By putting their pens to paper and affixing their signatures to this Declaration of Independence, these men altered the course of history, for the entire world, for all time.  The eloquence of words and the power of the pen set these 13 colonies on a path of war with England.  Our first government officials met the fiercest crisis with determination and singular purpose. 

When our flag was adopted in 1777 the colors had no significance.  Since that time orators and poets alike have ascribed various patriotic meaning to the red, white and blue.  The flag has changed very little in our 237 year history.  The thirteen stripes still represent those early 13 colonies.  The stars represent each state in the union.  The combination of the red, white and blue stirs a love of country and patriotism in me each time I see her unfurled and blowing in the breeze.

This July 4th let us remember the bravery of those 56 men who dared to challenge the authority of the crown.  Let us remember the thousands upon thousands of people who have fought on our behalf to secure our liberties for future generations.  On July 4th and indeed each day, let us fly our flag high and be grateful that we do enjoy “certain unalienable Rights”.  Let us, everyone, “hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal”.
