Grandreaders Program Rolled Out This Summer At Montgomery County Public Libraries

The Grandreaders Program pairs kids in kindergarten through third grade with a senior in order to practice reading out loud.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Grandreaders are being sought to participate in a summer reading program at Montgomery County Public Libraries. The one-on-one program pairs a Grandreader volunteer with a child from kindergarten to third grade who will practice reading out loud.

“We are delighted to resume this in-person program at MCPL,” MCPL Director Anita Vassallo said. “This program is designed to improve students' ability to read more fluently and with better comprehension and to keep their reading skills sharp during the summer.”

The Grandreaders Program will run for five weeks starting the last week of June until the end of July at the Aspen Hill, Gaithersburg, Wheaton and White Oak libraries. No registration is required. Participants can bring their own book or select one from the library.
