Labor Day Parade Winds through Olde Towne Gaithersburg

The City of Gaithersburg and FD will celebrate with the 79th Annual Labor Day Parade on Monday, September 4.

From the City of Gaithersburg: The City of Gaithersburg and the Gaithersburg-Washington Grove Fire Department celebrate the unofficial end of summer with the 79th Annual Labor Day Parade on Monday, September 4, 2017, at 1 p.m. The parade features an assortment of high school marching bands, dance groups, costumed characters, antique cars and fire engines, equestrian units, clowns, and more. Jen Richer, Co-host and Executive Producer of The Tommy Show on 94.7 Fresh FM, joins the parade as Mistress of Ceremonies.

Due to construction of Olde Towne Park Plaza, this year’s parade route has shifted and is slightly shorter. The parade starts near the intersection of East Diamond and Summit Avenues in Olde Towne, with the viewing stand and concession area located at the turn from Diamond onto Russell Avenue. Most ideal viewing will be along Russell Avenue.

Free parking is a short distance away at Lakeforest Shopping Center. It is just a two block walk from there to Russell Avenue. Free, accessible shuttle bus service will also be provided from the Lakeforest Shopping Center transit station to Gaithersburg Elementary School (nearest to where the parade begins) starting at noon. Limited free parking is available in the Olde Towne Parking Garage at the corner of Olde Towne and Summit Avenues. Accessible parking for those with disability placards or plates is available behind the Victor Litz store on the north side of Diamond Avenue.

The City is still looking for community groups and other organizations to march in the parade. Organizations and individual volunteers are also needed to distribute program booklets, assist with the parade line-up and participate as characters in the parade. Note that participation in the Labor Day Parade by groups or organizations other than City of Gaithersburg officials, departments or committees does not constitute City of Gaithersburg endorsement. Labor Day Parade Participant Registration and Agreement Forms are available online here.
