MoCo Cop Injured In Fiery Crash, Saved By Fellow Officer

Montgomery County police said the crash happened Friday afternoon as the officer was en route to an emergency call.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — A Montgomery County police officer was injured Friday when a car collided with their patrol car, causing it to catch fire.

According to police, the crash happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Snouffer School Road and Flower Hill Way. Authorities said the officer was en route to an emergency call when the collision occurred.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer said the crash happened when another vehicle struck the officer's patrol car, causing its airbags to deploy.

Moments after the crash, police said the patrol car caught fire and the officer became trapped inside the vehicle. Another officer arrived at the scene and was able to extinguish the fire and free the officer, police said.

The officer was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the second vehicle also suffered minor injuries in the crash.
