New Restaurants, Movie Theater Coming To Kentlands Market Square

GAITHERSBURG, MD — Kentlands Market Square will soon welcome eight new businesses to its directory.

Kimco Realty Corp. — the real estate development trust that is revamping the open-air shopping center in Gaithersburg — made the announcement in a press statement on May 7.

Kentlands' newest tenants are: Berries & Bowls; Brews and Barrels; Goldfish Swim School; Dog Haus; Cinco de Mayo; Tutti Frutti and Bonchon Chicken; MOD Pizza; and Cinépolis.

The businesses are part of Kimco's $23.1 million redevelopment plan, which includes façade renovations, new signage, and the creation of a central paseo. The changes are expected to transform the space into a walkable and diverse retail center with ample outdoor dining opportunities, the company said.

"The redevelopment at Kentlands Market Square reflects the evolution in retail today and demonstrates how successful shopping centers will adapt and thrive. The center will be a state-of-the-art lifestyle destination, and we are thrilled to see it come alive," said Tom Simmons, President of Kimco's Mid-Atlantic Region. "We continue to welcome new tenants that will make Kentlands Market Square the perfect one-stop-shop environment. From fitness to healthy fast-casual restaurants, and entertainment to educational uses, Kentlands Market Square and the greater Gaithersburg area will have it all."

The businesses, according to Kimco, are set to open in phases over the next year. Here's a breakdown of retailers and their respective opening dates:

• Berries & Bowls
  • What: A superfood café that serves made-to-order acai bowls, freshly pressed juices, healthy smoothies, and more.
  • When: Expected to open towards the end of 2019.
• Brews and Barrels
  • What: A pub and restaurant. No other information is available at this time.
  • When: Expected to open in late 2019.
• Goldfish Swim School
  • What: An aquatic facility that offers indoor swimming lessons to children ages 4 months and up.
