Pedestrian Dies 11 Days After Being Hit By Car In Bethesda: Police

An elderly woman struck by a car May 6 on Rockledge Drive in Bethesda has died from her injuries, Montgomery County Police said.

BETHESDA, MD — An elderly woman struck by a car May 6 on Rockledge Drive in Bethesda has died from her injuries, authorities said Wednesday.

Carole Barbara Weiss, 84, was the pedestrian who died in the accident near Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, according to Montgomery County Police. A hometown for Weiss has not been released.

The accident happened about 11:20 a.m. on May 6 when a 2005 Honda Accord was southbound on Rockledge Drive approaching Democracy Boulevard. Weiss was struck in the southbound lanes as she attempted to cross from the median separating the north and south travel lanes of Rockledge Drive.

The driver of the Honda and several witnesses stopped to give aid to Weiss. She was taken to an area hospital, where she died from her injuries on May 17, police said in a news release.

Investigators have not released the name of the Honda's driver.

Police said Weiss crossed to the center median, toward the western side of Rockledge Drive, and entered the southbound lanes of Rockledge Drive, where she was struck.

Whether charges are warranted will be determined once the investigation is done, police said.
