Public Art Project Accepting Artists’ Submissions

From The City of Gaithersburg: The City of Gaithersburg announces the release of a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to commission a professional artist(s)/arts firm to create site-specific exterior installations of public art in the Olde Towne neighborhood of Gaithersburg, Maryland. The City is interested in, but not limited to, installations that incorporate light and projection art with both a daytime and nighttime presence. The RFQ document details the scope of the project, the funding allocation, and provides additional information that will aid in preparing a response. All inquiries should be directed to PublicArt@gaithersburgmd.gov.

Artists will be selected from the pool of applicants by members of the Cultural Arts Advisory Committee (CAAC) and City staff. Their selection(s) will be submitted to the Gaithersburg Mayor and City Council for approval to move to the Design Proposal stage.

The selected artist(s) will then work closely with the CAAC and the City’s Cultural Arts Staff to develop, design and fabricate the installation(s).

Revitalization of Olde Towne, the City’s historic commercial center, is a key priority in the City’s strategic plan. This part of Gaithersburg is pedestrian centric and has classic Victorian homes alongside modern multifamily housing, elementary and middle schools, a youth center, parks, retail, and restaurants.
