Rescuers: No Reason to Believe Kayaker Is Missing

GAITHERSBURG, MD — Montgomery County rescuers are searching for a possible victim after finding an unmanned kayak in Clopper Lake.

Fire and rescue crews were called to the lake off Birdsong Lane after 8 a.m. Monday.

Fire department boats retrieved an unoccupied kayak in the water, and crews are investigating whether a boater is missing, said spokesman Pete Piringer on Twitter.

About 9 a.m. Piringer said crews will continue to investigate the unoccupied kayak, but there are no reports of a missing person and no reason to believe a kayaker is in the water.
