"Roman Gladiators" in Los Angeles & The Figure + Abstracts in MD

Artist Vian Shamounki Borchert latest art collection of her famed bearded men portraits are now on exhibit in L.A. The latest collection and series of “Roman Gladiators” are some of the quintessential work of Vian Shamounki Borchert. Expressionist figurative work with a full scale of emotions is what these portraits embody.

These portraits will be in a group art exhibition titled "Spectrum Gestalt" in BG Gallery, Santa Monica, CA.

The Roman Gladiators' series were inspired by Borchert's trip to Rome and more specifically the colossal Colosseum in the heart of Rome where Borchert who herself comes of archaeological and Mediterranean roots was inspired by the heat of the Roman sun and the breeze of its pine trees and the city's charms through it ancient ruins all over
the city. In these works Borchert revisits her memory of the old city and her love for archaeology and history. Her love of archaeology reconnects her with her own roots as well. After all, her grandfather was an avid archaeologist who spoke 8 languages – An "Indiana Jones" of some sort even before the fictional character of "Indiana Jones" even existed.

So, an homage to her love for expressive portraiture through capturing the strength of what the artist imagines all the gladiators that went through the Colosseum facing a fierce wild beast either taming it or ending their life in return - all for the sake of entertainment.

Pass forward thousands of years, Borchert aims through these portraits to bring in narrative and intrigue to the LA audience and art gallery attendees and allure them in through the charm of the fierce and strength of
yesteryear's gladiators and soldiers.

There will be 2 receptions for this exhibit: an opening reception and a closing one.

Exhibit Dates: 6/16 - 7/8

Closing Reception: Sunday July 8th, 2-4pm

On a local note, Borchert has here most recent abstract and landscape paintings along with her expressionistic figurative paintings on exhibit for the Summer at The Framer's Choice Gallery in downtown Kentlands on 402 Main Street, Gaithersburg, MD 20878. Gallery is open daily.
