GAITHERSBURG, MD — A tipster helped authorities identify and arrest a man who robbed a Gaithersburg bank last month, according to Montgomery County Police.

The man — 36-year-old Jonathan David Goff, of Rineyville, Kentucky — was charged for the June 8 armed robbery of the TD Bank at 15830 Shady Grove Rd., police said.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m., units responded to the TD Bank for the report of a robbery. Montgomery County Police say Goff — who implied he was armed with a weapon — approached a teller, passed a note demanding cash, and announced the robbery.

On June 20, detectives released a surveillance photograph of the suspect in hopes that the public could help identify him. The following day, authorities received a tip which led to the identification of Goff as the suspect.

Less than two weeks later, Goff was arrested near Bloomington, Illinois by members of the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force and local law enforcement agencies. Police say he remains incarcerated in Bloomington pending extradition to Montgomery County.

This isn't the first time Goff has gotten in trouble with the law in the state of Maryland. According to court records, he was criminally charged with the unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, theft, and the unauthorized removal of property in 2018. The District Court for Baltimore City ordered that he be held in custody. Goff was later released.
