U.S. Marshal Fatally Shoots Wanted Man In Montgomery County, FBI Investigating
A deputy sheriff assigned to the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force fatally shot a wanted man in Montgomery County.
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — An officer-involved shooting unfolded Wednesday morning in Montgomery County.
The Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General was notified by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office that at approximately 9:30 a.m., a deputy sheriff assigned to the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force was serving an arrest warrant in the 100 block of Garth Terrace in Gaithersburg, the IID reported.
During the execution of the warrant, the deputy discharged a firearm, fatally injuring the wanted man. A second man was shot and taken to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries, according to the IID.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations Baltimore Field Office will be conducting the initial investigation. The IID retains an obligation under Maryland law to conduct its own investigation and write its own report of the shooting. At the conclusion of the IID’s investigation, that report will be referred to the relevant State’s Attorney’s Office to consider whether state charges are appropriate.
