GAITHERSBURG, MD — In about a minute, six women stole 29 cellphones from a Verizon store in Gaithersburg, according to authorities.

Montgomery County Police said it happened on July 18. At about 6:30 p.m., six women entered the store at 299 Copley Place. Two of the women came in holding a small child. While the group distracted the employee by asking for help, another woman — who police said appeared to be pregnant — slipped into an open storeroom and stole about $24,000 worth of cellphones.

An employee who spotted the woman leaving the storeroom confronted her. During this interaction, police said the other five women "overwhelmed the employee" before they all left the store. The group was last seen leaving the area in a dark-colored minivan.

Investigators believe that the women wore long skirts to help them hide the stolen items. They also think that the woman who appeared to be pregnant may have been faking her pregnancy "in order to use that area of her clothing to hide the cellular phones."

Surveillance video from the store is embedded below.
