📰 News we're reading

• The 15 Best Places to Live in Maryland for 2026, According to U.S. News (mocoshow.com) — Germantown ranks #7 among the 15 best places to live in Maryland for 2026, according to U.S. News, helping Montgomery County dominate the statewide list. The rankings weigh affordability, quality of life, jobs, and desirability, with Germantown joining Bethesda, Rockville, Gaithersburg, and Silver Spring among the county’s top-rated communities.

• New Leapfrog report ranks hospitals' safety grades in DC, Maryland, and Virginia (wjla.com) — Holy Cross Germantown Hospital in Germantown received a ‘C’ safety grade in a new national Leapfrog report, while several other Montgomery County hospitals earned higher marks. The rankings compare infection prevention, surgical safety, and error reduction across Maryland, Virginia, and D.C. Residents can use the grades as one tool when weighing local care options.

• School social workers react to potential job cuts: ‘We are the lifeline that students reach out to' (mymcmedia.org) — Germantown families are directly affected as a social worker at Seneca Valley High School warns that proposed Montgomery County Public Schools budget cuts could remove critical student support positions.
