Today's riddle: Why did the cookie go to the hospital? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Lotte Plaza Market to Open in Germantown (mocoshow.com) — A new Lotte Plaza Market is set to open at Fox Chapel Center on Frederick Road, bringing an Asian grocery option back to Germantown after a four‑year absence. The chain will take over the current GW Supermarket space when that lease ends in April, adding Germantown to its growing list of regional locations.
2. Judge sentences Germantown man to 25 years in prison for fatal 2025 shooting (bethesdamagazine.com) — A Germantown man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a deadly 2025 shooting at Germantown Square Urban Park on Middlebrook Road, a case that shook the neighborhood. Prosecutors say he shot a 34-year-old man multiple times after an earlier dispute, and Montgomery County police quickly arrested him and another armed man near the park.
3. Montgomery County schools face possible closures as board sets timeline for decisions (wjla.com) — Germantown families could see big changes ahead as Montgomery County weighs school closures and boundary shifts, including earlier-approved moves sending Gaithersburg students to Clemente Middle and Northwest High in Germantown. MCPS has laid out a multi-year timeline, with community meetings this fall and final closure decisions expected in 2027 that would start taking effect in the 2029-2030 school year.
4. Week 6 Montgomery County Football Top 10 (mocoshow.com) — Montgomery County's Week 6 football rankings spotlight a big Germantown showdown as Seneca Valley hosts Northwest in the annual Battle of Germantown. With Seneca's defense rolling and Northwest trying to stabilize its offense, the rivalry could reshape both teams' seasons and shake up the county's Top 10 heading into the second half of the schedule.
5. Subway Permanently Closes (mocoshow.com) — Rockville's Courthouse Center Subway on North Washington Street has permanently closed, with signs thanking customers and early word that a Japanese deli and grocery may replace it. For Germantown residents, the story underscores a broader shift, as another local Subway here also shut down earlier this year, hinting at changing fast‑food options nearby.
