Clarksburg Reveals its New Flag on Heritage Day

Clarksburg, MD: Shaneea Peek, the $250 Grand Prize Winner of the town’s new flag design, will be officially announced by The Clarksburg Chamber of Commerce at 12 noon on June 27th during Heritage Day, a celebration to be held at the Clarksburg United Methodist Church at 23425 Spire Street. The event is sponsored by The Clarksburg Historical Society and will include crafts, food, historic displays and costume re-enactors.

The flag reveal, which will occur on the heels of National Flag Day, will take place on the steps of the church. It will include designs of the runners-up, honorable mentions and other contest submissions. Eventually, the flag will find permanent residence at Dowden’s Ordinary, located on the corner of Rt. 355 and Stringtown Road, where it will stand as a symbol of the historic town.

The contest, sponsored by The Clarksburg Chamber of Commerce as well as Dr. Gordon Groisser of Village Orthodontics, was open to all residents and students of Clarksburg. All contestants were invited to use their original artistic abilities to come up with an emblem that incorporated the town’s rich history, community and education.
