Dalí Quartet Performs at Strathmore Mansion

In background and performance, this extraordinary young ensemble represents the best of two worlds: classical music, and classic conservatory training; and Latin music, and Venezuela’s famed El Sistema program for music education. Blending an enticing mix of traditional string quartet repertoire with Latin American chamber music, in their Strathmore debut the Dalí Quartet will perform works by Handel, Beethoven, Turina, Villa-Lobos and Piazzolla. “Dalí has a big, lush sound. They captured the elegance and lightness of the Haydn quartet and did not have any difficulty in switching to the dissonant drama of one of Beethoven’s most stormy chamber music works. As expected, they handled the Latin American music with authoritative ease” (The Morning Call).

Program includes:

  • Efraín Amaya: Angelica (Mix of Latin rhythms, 2000)
  • Felix Mendelssohn : String Quartet in D major, op. 44 no. 1 (1838)
  • Heitor Villa-Lobos : String Quartet No. 1 (1915)
  • Joaquín Turina : La Oración del Torero, Op. 34 (1925)
  • Carlos Gardel: El día que me quieras – “The Day You Love Me”
  • Carlos Almarán: La historia de un amor – “The Story of Love”
  • Abelardito Valdes : Danzón Almendra (Dance, 1938)
