Social Justice Advocate & Political Activist Lilly Ledbetter will speak at Montgomery College.
The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was the first bill President Obama signed into law on January 29, 2009.
Lilly Ledbetter was paid considerably less than her male counterparts when she worked at Goodyear. She filed a lawsuit against them, which eventually reached the Supreme Court. Because the suit was filed outside of the limitations period, Ms. Ledbetter will never receive the money that was denied her. Still, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was named after her in support of other women who may suffer such inequity. Ms. Ledbetter spoke at the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, CO. As the third speaker in the Fall Speaker Series, you will not want to miss hearing the activist tell her story of inequality and eventual triumph.
